I would like more information about Foodbank…

Why a Foodbank?

Many in our community have been hit by the economic downturn.  Anecdotal reports from various agencies and charitable organisations confirm that local people are experiencing crises when money runs out and their families go hungry.

Who runs Dorchester’s Foodbank?

Dorchester’s Foodbank is an initiative started by Dorchester Baptist Church as part of the work of Dorchester’s churches. Its management committee is a group of members and those linked to the church, who are responsible to the pastors and leadership team of the church.  Volunteers from other churches are also involved in the sorting, packing and distribution of the food.

How is Dorchester’s Foodbank funded?

It is funded by donations of food from various churches, schools, and people in and around Dorchester, with some gifts of money from individuals and from the church itself.

Who can get food from Dorchester’s Foodbank?

Anyone in crisis, who has no food or money to buy food, as long as they are given a voucher by a recognised voucher holder who can corroborate that the need is real.

What should I do if the organisation I work for wants to be a ‘voucher holder’?
