Opportunities to Serve
Junior Church teachers and helpers
Due to the growth in numbers of children, and to allow a degree of rotation for all of the helpers, there is an urgent need to recruit able teachers and helpers for all age groups.
In our Junior Church, we are looking for leaders with an infectious faith in the Lord Jesus which can be communicated to the kids, rather than people who see themselves as specially gifted children’s workers or trained teachers, although both would be very welcome. A lively and active personal faith is seen as far more essential than specific training, experience or profound theological knowledge.
There is also a need for people who will simply act as a second pair of eyes and hands in a group while not taking central responsibility. With small children this may involve helping with making or colouring; with older kids it may be helping the leader in keeping the group on track. Also, from time to time some children need one-to-one attention within a group which an individual teacher may not be able to offer.
Please speak to Marion Potter or Amy Chambers if you are interested. All applications will be subject to our “Safe to Grow” policy and appropriate checks.
Building maintenance team
Do you have good practical skills in any area of building or fabric maintenance? Are you a trained carpenter, electrician, plumber, decorator, sound engineer, or are you simply gifted at fixing things? If your answer is ‘yes’ and want to give some of your time and talent to serving God in practical ways, we need to hear from you.
Our building, and everything in it, gets a lot of use, and the wear and tear that naturally goes along with that. If you would like to join the team responsible for keeping things in good order please speak to Keith Stevens as soon as possible.
Housegroup leaders and hosts
We find that we always have people wanting to join housegroups, and ideally we would like everyone connected with the church to be part of a group. New groups have been born in each of the last three years, and we hope to start another new one very soon. Our challenge is to find able and willing leaders from within the existing groups and also to find hospitable members who are happy to accommodate the group evenings. If you are a member of the church and a housegroup, and feel this might be a way in which you can help, please speak to Harry Place, Ray Broome or Steve Potter.
We believe in gifts!
The areas of service mentioned here are not at all exhaustive and it may be that you already know that the Holy Spirit has given you a gift, talent or ability and you want to offer that to help build up the body of Christ in Dorchester Baptist Church. We want to hear from you; there are teams engaged in music, youth work, catering and prayer ministry to name just a few areas in which more help would be welcomed.
Perhaps you don’t know what gifts you have and feel you have nothing to offer, please don’t be shy, God does have something for you which may be quite unexpected and certainly exciting.
