Deacons
Mark Adkins was elected to the Leadership Team in November 2011. He moved to Dorchester in July 2008 and works for Dorset County Council. He has been married to Jan for 20 years and they have 2 daughters aged 17 and 14. He has attended DBC since moving here and thoroughly enjoys the times of corporate worship, teaching and friendship. He has been involved with Dorchester’s Foodbank from early on and sees this as a practical way of demonstrating the love and compassion of Christ.
Julian Boardman is the Church Treasurer and was elected to the Leadership Team in November 2010. He was born in London and was adopted into a Christian family at a very young age. He was confirmed in the Anglican Church at the age of 13. He met his wife, Chrissy, at university and they have two grown up children. He works as a “beancounter” for a Christian owned manufacturing Group of companies based in Poole.
Julie Gallichan is married to Nigel and they have just become grandparents. Following her ‘year out’ from the leadership team, she was re-elected in November 2011. She would describe herself as an administrator and someone who likes the details. She is now using her skills in this area (and stretching them too) by undertaking the role of Church Secretary.
Nigel Gallichan was re-elected to the leadership team of DBC in November 2011 having already served for 3 years. Nigel is responsible for leading on evangelism. His passion to make the Gospel known throughout the community of Dorchester and beyond is worked out through coordinating courses including Alpha, Journeys and Blowing Your Cover, and supporting other outreach projects undertaken by members at DBC. Nigel retired from Dorset Police in 2005 and now works part time for Waitrose at their Poundbury store. He is married to Julie (Church Secretary) and has a son and daughter and one granddaughter.
David Lucas helps to lead the pastoral care team and holds that portfolio within the leadership team. David has a great sense of humour allied to a very caring nature and willingness to roll his sleeves up and help people in whatever way is needed. David is also a fine musician and singer.
Maureen Lucas was elected as a Deacon in November 2011. She is now retired following a 40 year career in nursing. She co-leads a housegroup and is also heavily involved in the pastoral work of the church. She is married to Dave and they have 2 sons, 2 daughter-in laws and 3 grandchildren that bring much joy and involvement!
Chris Nowell was elected to the leadership in November 2009 and has been serving the church as head of the welcome team for a couple of years. Chris always has a smile and cheerful greeting; one of those key people who make the church a warm place even when it can seem crowded.
Marion Potter was elected as a deacon for the first time in 2011 after being a member of DBC for 22 years. She has been marrried to Stephen for 33 years, and has 2 children and 1 daughter in law. Marion describes herself as having a love of children, particularly those under 5, and loves to make things – cooking, sewing and knitting. Others might describe Marion by her warm smile. Marion is a Paediatric ward sister by profession and is presently involved in church children’s work. She has contributed to youthwork and church catering in the recent past, and these reflect some of the gifts God has given her.
Amanda Rhodes is a wife and mother of young kids so we have given her responsibility for welcoming those who are new to the church and helping them to become integrated and she also holds the “mission” portfolio. She is also a new preacher who is learning to exercise that gift as opportunities are offered. “If you want something done, ask a busy woman”.
Rev. Ann Thelwell was elected onto the leadership in November 2011. She is married to Andrew and has three young boys. Having trained at Regents Theological College she pastored in a couple of Elim Churches before moving to Dorchester in 2009 when she became a full-time stay at home mum. In addition to playing with cars and lego Ann leads a homegroup and co-ordinates the work of our Junior Church along with a bit of preaching. Ann would like you to know that she is the youngest member of the leadership team!
Keith White was elected to the Leadership Team in November 2010 and counts in a real honour to serve his brothers and sisters. He is married to Maggie and they have two grown up children. As a family they love serving Jesus, and count it a real privilege to be at DBC where we know God has placed us. Another delight in Keith’s delight is being part of a Christian based trust that provides holidays for young people. It is based under the heading of Fleet Camps and a setting for young people to have fun whilst learning about Jesus.
Paul White was elected onto the Leadership Team in November 2010. He is very much a people person, and likes nothing better than having a good chat with people of all ages. He learnt to listen well during his time as a police officer in Dorset. Paul loves praying with people who need God’s healing touch and helps serve others through the Wednesday cafe’ at the church and at a local Christian retreat near Milbourne St Andrew. He is keen to develop a gift of prophecy within the church.
