You haven’t asked me yet!
Dr. A. Dixon, said that when we depend upon organisation, we get what organisation can do. When we depend on education, we get what education can do. When we depend on money, we get what money can do. When we depend upon singing and preaching, we get what singing and preaching can do. But when we depend upon prayer, we get what God can do.
God actually commands us to pray. Look up the following references
2 Chron 7:14; Phil 4:6; 1 Thess 5:17 & James 5:16
A little boy was out in the garden helping his dad. He was trying to move a heavy stone. He was grunting, and groaning. He was struggling, and straining, but it was not going anywhere. His dad stood watching him. Finally, when the boy was about to give up, his dad said, “Son, can you not move that stone?” “No,” the little boy replied. “Well have you used all of your strength?” his dad asked. The boy answered, “Yes dad.” To which the dad replied, “No you haven’t, you haven’t asked me yet!”
Have you asked God yet?
In his first prayer, Eph 1:17 ff Paul prays that we might come to know God’s power.
“I keep asking that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the glorious Father, may give you the Spirit of wisdom and revelation, so that you may know Him better. I pray also that the eyes of your heart may be enlightened in order that you may know the hope to which He has called you, the riches of His glorious inheritance in the saints, and His incomparably great power for us who believe” (vv. 17-19).
Nothing you can do will benefit you more than prayer. (Paul Y. Cho)

« You need to ask | Free, but only on Sundays! »

I think the point made is important and perhaps, needs the appropriate weight in the gathering on Sunday!? Perhaps we could re-evaluate the time we currently spend in various other expressions of worship and devotion in our corporate time together at Church and focus more on this area? If communication with God is key, should it not have more time??
I think this chap may have point, there is a balance to be struck here. However is Harry writing about worship services or about personal christian disciplines? I think its the latter.
Is Lee the guy who blocks the light in the front row?
Steve,
You raise an interesting point but I am not sure it negates mine!
I agree, we are all challenged to pray, and pray more in a personal context but, “where two or three come together….” (Matthew 18:20).
On the other issue, I am normally accused of blinding people based on the sheen of my head!
