Deacons
Chris Baker is the deacon responsible for children’s’ work but if there is something good going on, Chris will usually be there with her sleeves rolled up and a big smile. She leads and hosts a housegroup with her husband Richard, leads Kids and Co and is also on the welcome team on Sunday morning.
Ray Broome is responsible for housegroups and is also our nominated trustee for an ecumenical project called The Quiet Space on the nearby Poundbury development.
With his wife Anne he has served on short term missions in India and Argentina and still helps with Alpha courses at the Verne prison. Although retired he still “keeps his hand in” as a chiropractor.
Caroline Couzens has the portfolio of discipleship and is one of the leaders of our Xplore nurture group. She is a member of our prayer ministry team, a good listener and is willing to support people with prayer and encouragement.
Julie Gallichan is a housegroup leader and host with her husband Nigel but mainly uses her gift for administration as our treasurer. Julie keeps everyone organised and on course but is so good at doing it that they don’t notice and keep on believing they did it all on their own.
Nigel Gallichan is the strong silent type and not what we immediately picture as an evangelist but he has a huge passion to see people coming to faith in Jesus and wants to see the church much more active in reaching out to our community. As a retired policeman now working in management for South West trains he sees the need every day.
David Holman is the deacon responsible for prayer and has served in the leadership of several other churches. David is a very capable preacher who served the church well during its period of pastoral vacancy and brings a voice of experience and biblical knowledge to the leadership meetings.
David Lucas helps to lead the pastoral care team and holds that portfolio within the leadership team. David has a great sense of humour allied to a very caring nature and willingness to roll his sleeves up and help people in whatever way is needed. David is also a fine musician and singer.
Chris Nowell was elected to the leadership in November 2009 and has been serving the church as head of the welcome team for a couple of years. Chris always has a smile and cheerful greeting; one of those key people who make the church a warm place even when it can seem crowded.
Amanda Rhodes is a wife and mother of young kids so we have given her responsibility for welcoming those who are new to the church and helping them to become integrated and she also holds the “mission” portfolio. She is also a new preacher who is learning to exercise that gift as opportunities are offered. “If you want something done, ask a busy woman”
Steve Potter is the Church Secretary, it is his job to do everything nobody else wants to do, preparing agenda and minutes, making returns and writing reports.
Keith Stevens has one of the most demanding and little appreciated briefs on the leadership team because he looks after maintenance and the technical side of things like sound and videos. He has a tough time making sure that what he does goes unnoticed due to perfect Powerpoint presentations and the absence of feedback.
